Pancreatitis is inflammation of the pancreas. The pancreas is an organ that lies behind the stomach and next to part of the small intestine. The pancreas aids in digestion of proteins, fats and carbohydrates by secreting digestive enzymes into the first part of the small intestine (duodenum).

Many minor conditions can cause pain in the navel area and even radiate to other areas of the body, including the pelvis, legs, and chest. Common causes include indigestion, constipation, and pregnancy. Treatment depends on the underlying cause.

The appendix is part of the large intestine, which is why the pain is near the belly button. Other symptoms of appendicitis include fever and an upset stomach. The pain also usually moves from the belly button to the lower right side of your abdomen, and you may also experience back pain.

In women, the exam can also give information about the uterus and ovaries. When your healthcare provider presses on your belly, he or she is feeling to see if any of these organs is puffy or sore. This makes the organ painful to touch. This could be a sign of disease.

What is the belly button connected to internally?

Internally the veins and arteries in the cord close up and form ligaments, which are tough connective tissues. These ligaments divide up the liver into sections and remain attached to the inside of the belly button.
